Join members of the Tolowa Dee'Ni Nation for a free presentation about the Tolowa Dee-Ni Nation’s Native Plant Nursery and the native and medicinal plants that reside within it—including some medicinal teas that can be made using some of the plants!

About the presenters: 

Margaret Arias is the Tribal Resource Specialist for the Habitat & Wildlife Division of Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation. She is a Tolowa Citizen of Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation and grew up involved in the Culture. She helps manage the Tribes Native Plant Nursery and local restoration projects. She has been employed with Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation for 21 years; most recently I transferred to Natural Resources from our Tribal Gaming Agency. She is a hobbyist experience in Horticulture, and working knowledge of Native plants.

Jeff Mathison is the Tribal Resource Technician for the Habitat & Wildlife Division of Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation. He is a Tolowa Citizen of Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation and helps manage the Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation Native Plant nursery. He wears many hats and offers a helping hand wherever he is needed as he has a lot of knowledge to share.

Elena Sisneros is the Habitat & Wildlife Division Manager for Tolowa Dee-ni' Nation. 

The Stlh-xat-dvn (Habitat & Wildlife Division) focuses on research, data collection, traditional knowledge, best available science, and partnerships to inform restoration, adaptation, and active stewardship, on a landscape level, to land, plants, and wildlife within Taa-laa-waa-dvn (Tolowa aboriginal territory). The goals of this division include the following:

  • Protect the legal right for Tribal hunting and gathering.
  • Habitat restoration and adaptation through the gathering of baseline and/or monitoring data on priority species, related habitats, indicators, and human uses.
  • Increase access to high-quality traditional food and utilitarian plants.
  • Develop capacity for fuels reduction workforce, prescribed & cultural burning, and forest health improvement
